Liz Welch has been engaged in the study, practice and teaching of Oriental health systems, in the form of Tai Chi, Qigong, Shiatsu, acupressure and meditation, for over 30 years.

She has been practising meditation since 1985 and Tai Chi, Qigong and Shiatsu since 1992. She has had training in Psychosynthesis counselling skills and has experience in adult education teaching and personal development group-work facilitation.

She studied Tai Chi and Qigong for many years with internationally recognised Chinese masters and qualified as an Instructor for the John Ding International Academy of Tai Chi Chuan. She was a regular contributor of articles on Tai Chi, Shiatsu and Chinese Medicine for many years to the international magazine Tai Chi and Alternative Health.  She has collaborated on several books and featured on mainstream media.

Liz was a Director and Principal Teacher for the European Shiatsu School from 1999 to 2015 and taught regularly in Hertfordshire, London, Devon, Marlborough, Ireland and France. She was a registered practitioner, teacher and teacher trainer with the Shiatsu Society and had a private Shiatsu practice in Hertford for over 20 years, before retiring from Shiatsu teaching in 2015.

Many years have been spent in intensive spiritual practice, including regular extended silent meditation retreats, based on teachings from various Buddhist traditions. She trained as a Mindfulness teacher with Bangor University’s Centre for Mindfulness, Research and Practice and brings these concepts into all her work.

She has worked across a wide spectrum of clients, students and organisations, from many charities through to stress reduction in the corporate world.

Liz pursues opportunities to integrate modern Western scientific and medical understandings with the knowledge gained over thousands of years by Oriental health practitioners.

Liz’s work involves helping people to become more self-aware and teaches techniques to calm, energise, balance and harmonise the mind, body and spirit. This brings a sense of integration to the system at all levels and enables anyone to take more responsibility for their own health, well-being and enjoyment of living.

Liz would like to thank all her teachers, students and clients who have contributed to her development and learning. In particular, the following teachers have played important roles in her understanding of health systems and spiritual development:
Zlata Vrabec; Bryan Nuttall; Dai Qiao Lin; Zhixing Wang; Sifu John Ding; Pauline Sasaki; Clifford Andrews; Dr. John Peacock; Dr. Simon Child; Ajahn Sumedho; Stephen Batchelor; Lama Yeshe Rinpoche; Shunryu Suzuki.

She fervently believes in nurturing individuals’ own innate ability to heal themselves and aims to empower her students and clients to take charge of their own health and personal development. Her intention is to encourage direct experience of Oriental medicine concepts and the mind/body connection with a very down to earth, easy, open and light-hearted approach.
